Holbrook was the latest team to experience the Westport girls basketball defensive buzzsaw and things did not go well for the Bulldogs during Wednesday’s visit to the Westport gym.
Inbounding the ball, dribbling up the court — everything was a challenge against the relentless pressure applied by the young Wildcats who won their 11th straight by a score of 76-13. The win put Westport at 11-0 overall, 4-0 in their division.
Eighth grader Laurta Mendell led Westport with 18 points, 11 assists and 10 steals, while even younger seventh grader Laila Silver added 15 points and eight steals. Kara Figueirdo had a dozen points and give rebounds.
Holbrook fell to 5-7 and will get another chance at Westport — this time at Holbrook — in February.
Boys fall to Holbrook
In a much closer game that same day, the Westport boys lost to Holbrook 59-56.
Connor Brown scored 20 points for the Wildcats, Nick Collins scored 14 points with 12 rebounds, and Devyn Vitorino put in 11 points.
The loss dropped Westport to 5-6
