Donald J. Brooder, 89, of Westport, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay. He was the husband of the late Rita (Massey) Brooder with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Mr. Brooder was born in Fall River, son of the late John W. and Blanche (Giasson) Brooder, and had resided in Westport since 1940. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a manager for Globe Manufacturing, Fall River. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Brooder was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport and a member of the V.F.W. Ouellette Post 8502 of Westport.
Survivors include his son, Wayne J. Brooder and his wife Sandra of Westport; his three daughters, Donna Santos and her significant other J. Lynn Singleton of Chepachet, Cheryl Florio and her husband Robert of Westport and Brenda McGovern and her husband Kevin of Tiverton; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Shirley Boissoneau.
Funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Monday, August 28, at 9 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 10 a.m.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
