Ernest J. Santos, 86, of Westport

Ernest J. Santos, 86, of Westport passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at St. Anne’s Hospital.  He was the husband of the late Lydia J. (Rose) Santos.

Born in Westport, son of the late Manuel and Alida (Samson) Santos, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. He worked for 31 years at Revere Copper and Brass until his retirement. 

Mr. Santos was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved all things outdoors, especially cutting wood and working in the garden. 

Survivors include a son, James M. Santos of Brockton; two daughters, Susan J. Elias of Westport and Sharon L. Vitale and her husband Paul of Ashland, Mass; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was brother of the late Robert Santos.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 17, from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road., Westport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Meals on Wheels, Bristol Elder Services, 1 Father DeValles Blvd., Unit 8, Fall River, MA 02723.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
