Gail Aubin-Fischer, 68, Westport

Gail Aubin-Fischer, LICSW, 68, of Westport, passed away on September 25, 2018, surrounded by her loving family in Tiverton after a long illness and courageous battle. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Aubin-Fischer of 28 years. She was the daughter of the late William and Genevieve (Dumbrowski) Aubin of Rumford, RI. Gail graduated from East Providence High School in 1968. Gail‘s focus in her early life was her home: raising and empowering her daughters and creating a cozy nest. She was active in Girl Scouts, church and her community.

From an early age she possessed a unique ability to comfort and help people, and it was her lifelong ambition to go to college and become a Social Worker. Gail graduated from SMU in 1991 summa cum laude with a Bachelor in Psychology, followed by BU in 1997 with a Master in Social Work. She thoroughly enjoyed counseling people out of her welcoming home where she hung her shingle in private practice. As a family counselor she helped many people and touched numerous lives.

Gail loved the ocean and the soul replenishing, calming sound of the waves. She and Richard delighted in paddling on the Westport and Slocum Rivers with their black lab Moka, who shared their love of the water. She was down to earth, had a wicked sense of humor and always a radiant smile to spread around, as well as a listening ear when needed.

Her beautiful soul will be cherished by her children, Tina McDonald (Andrew Pacheco Jr.) of Tiverton, Heather Ellis (Christian) of Buzzards Bay, Julie Thorpe (Brian) of Cranston, and David Fischer of Providence. She is also survived by an adoring brother Everett Aubin of Cranston. She was Nana Gail to Adam, Jocelyn, (fiancé Michael), Aden and Benjamin. She leaves behind loving in-laws Dorothy (Fischer) and William Wurts of Wethersfield, Conn., and Brian Paust of Petersburg, Ak, whose wife Marjorie (Fischer) preceded Gail in death. Gail was the family cheerleader, and relished spending time with loved ones and leaves many happy memories of good food, drink, fun and laughter.

We invite family, friends, clients, and anyone whose life she touched, to join us at McGovern's On The Water, 310 Shove St, Fall River, for a Celebration of Life on October 19, from 4-8 p.m. Please stop by to help her family honor this incredible woman and to share your most treasured memories of Gail over a sandwich or two, as she was known to always ask, "D'jeet?" (Did you eat?)

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you send donations (or consider adoption) to Save A Lab Rescue in Middletown, RI. Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, Westport. To sign the online guestbook, please visit www.potterfuneralservice.com.
