Laura D. Martin, 94, Westport

Laura D. (Peixinho) Martin, 94, of Westport, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Adams House. She was the wife of the late Joseph H. Martin.

Mrs. Martin was born in Fall River, daughter of the late Antone and Mary (Dias) Peixinho, and had resided in Westport since 1947. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport.

Survivors include her son, Paul A. Martin of Westport; her daughter, Maureen Levesque of Alaska; a brother, Antone Peixinho of Tiverton; three sisters, Hilda St. Ives of Berkley, Elsie Herman of Westport and Alice Sylvia of Tiverton; four grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Edward Peixinho, Mary Travassos and Florence Peixinho.

Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Friday, Sept 8, from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 11:30 a.m.

Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
