To the editor:
It is public knowledge that Channel 10, in Providence, has been purchased by Sinclair Broadcasting, a conglomerate. With this new ownership apparently comes a requirement that the station must now run conservative-leaning messaging during news programming. This is an extremely distressing Orwellian and authoritarian development.
When we "Turn to 10" we expect to hear news that is unbiased and focused on the facts. Now we are being propagandized to hear conservative opinions without balance. This is little different than the supposedly "fair and balanced" reporting found on the clearly conservative Fox News Channel on cable.
This is not the role that a local television news program should be taking. Viewers should feel confident that local news is focused on factual reporting and is not a propaganda organ of a particular political party and the corporate 1 percent.
I have written to Channel 10 and have asked them stand up to this requirement of corporate ownership and insist that this biased propaganda no longer be broadcast on the local channel and that Channel 10 News return to being a trusted and unbiased provider of local news and information.
Until this change happens I will no longer watch Channel 10 programming, especially news programming.
I am also writing to my community to share these concerns and ask others to reach out to Channel 10 about this frightening turn to corporate conservative authoritarian propagandizing.
Emails can be set to Channel 10 at vvetters@wjar.com.
