To the editor:
Before the advent of television, the cell phone, the internet etc., mass murders were only popularized by the killing actions of cult leaders, mad bombers and maybe an occasional psycho gun owner.
Today’s vast communication environment has encouraged mass murdering sprees for those seeking revenge at humanity, those having a desire to become famous, and may some so-called “copy cats.”
Each of these killing sprees is today popularized, thanks to the various media of communication and our hunger for exciting news.
No solution is forthcoming within out “communication environment” because of a few of the following reasons …
1. The Second Amendment gave us the right to protect ourselves from government dominance and provided us individual self-protection from criminal threats. Note that Hitler took away the guns from the Jews and many German civilian gun owners prior to his attempt to rule the world. Guns cannot be taken away from us.
2. Hollywood filmmakers have popularized violence in many movies to encourage gun use. Violence sells movies — you have to agree.
3. Video games have likewise popularized violence and gun killings. Parents, without thought of the repercussions, purchase these kill-promoting products for their children. Children spend hours behind their electronic machines receiving rewards for their killing prowess.
4. Should all of the guns be taken from American citizens, then only the criminals will have them.
I would like to see government hacks get off the subject of gun regulations. We have found, as an example in Chicago and other cities, that heavy restrictions placed upon gun possession over the past eight years of lackluster administration have not worked. In the past eight years, there have been 18,000 killings in Chicago alone.
Let’s instead analyze our environment and its video shortcomings, Our so-called representatives in Washington are heading us down a path leading to our own eradication. (Maybe, also, parents should “take heed.”)
Washington representatives want to deprive us of our self-protection, believing our guns are the problem for mass murder. Will they next ban pressure cookers, knives etc., and maybe baseball bats? Who knows?
