Margaret J. Mataronas, 61, of Little Compton, recently passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday November 2, 2018. She was born September 28, 1957, to the late Richard and Esther (Rosa) Mudd.
Margaret was a kind, loving, selfless person. For 42 years she owned and managed Sakonnet Lobster Company with her beloved husband, Jim. Her love for animals led her to be a registered animal rehabilitator. She successfully cared for many wild animals, including her favorite — raccoons, in addition to many family pets over the years. Her other passions included gardening (member Sogkonate Garden Club), traveling, and being active in the Sakonnet Point Club, serving on the Board of Directors and as chairwoman of the Program and Events Committee.
She is lovingly remembered by her best friend and husband of 37 years, James Mataronas III. Also, by her sons Gregory Mataronas Sr. and his wife Sandra, Douglas Mataronas, Matthew Mataronas and his wife Amanda, and her daughter Brandilyn (Mataronas) Cruz and her husband Christian, as well as six grandchildren whom she adored.
Mrs. Mataronas’s services were held Monday and Tuesday of this week. She was buried at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery in Little Compton on Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. www.dana-farber.org/how-you-can-help/ways-to-give/make-a-memorial-or-tribute-gift/
