Incumbent Michelle Orlando finishes third in race for two seats

Posted

Westport School Committee member Melissa Pacheco and political newcomer Gloria Cabral won three-year terms on the school committee Tuesday, placing first and second place, respectively, in the general election. Incumbent Michelle Orlando placed third, failing in her bid for re-election.

Turnout was light, with 530 voters (four percent of those registered) casting ballots. Pacheco received 308 votes, Cabral 290 and Orlando 242.

The results are still unofficial, as write-ins have not yet been counted. It was the only contested race in this year's election.

Pacheco, a member of the school committee since 2019, was elected following a previous stint on the committee from 2013 to 2016, and Orlando was hoping to win a second term following her election in 2019.

Cabral, a newcomer, has lived in town since 1987. She is a chef.
