Hurricane Florence was making life miserable for people in North Carolina as she approached landfall early Friday, but the distant storm was a treat for surfers who flocked to South Shore beaches including Goosewing and South Shore Beach in the Little Compton and Westport areas.
The one-time category four hurricane sent large swells north to our region, waves that peaked late Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Partial sunshine, mild water temperatures, air temps in the mid-seventies and a moderate breeze made for nice conditions surfers said.
