Richard J. Barresi, 83, Westport

Richard J. Barresi, 83, of Westport, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Lillian O. (Oliveira) Barresi with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.

Mr. Barresi was born in Presque Isle, Maine, son of the late Vincent and Elise (Roy) Barresi, and had been a longtime resident of Westport. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Barresi was a partner at Durfee Buffington Insurance Agency for over 50 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Quequechan Club and the Westport Finance Committee for many years. He was a coach for the Westport Basketball League and a volunteer for the Westport Little League for over 19 years. He was a registrar of voters and a former member on the Board of Directors for Bay Coast Bank. Over the years, he was active in many civic groups in both Fall River and Westport.

Survivors, along with his wife. include his three sons, David J. Barresi and Anne of Latham, NY, Douglas J. Barresi and Simonne of Fairhaven, and Stephen R. Barresi and Anique of Atlanta, Ga.; his daughter, Lisa A. Barresi of Cincinnati, Ohio; his brother, James Barresi and his wife Judy of Castle Hill, Maine; four granddaughters, Laurin, Gabrielle, Lilliana and Jordan; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joseph Barresi.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Friday, March 31, from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 10 a.m.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
