Russell N. Sherman, 86, formerly of Westport

Russell N. Sherman, 86, of Madison, Alabama, formerly of Westport, died peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, in Madison, Alabama. He was the husband of Evelyn (Snively) Sherman of Madison, Alabama.

Born in Westport, son of the late Roger D. and Olive A. (Hart) Sherman, he grew up and lived in Westport until joining the military in 1952.  After retiring as a CW4, Russell continued to serve as an engineer in the aerospace and defense industry until he retired in 2010.  He enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Westport Fisherman’s Association.   

He is survived by seven children, George Sherman of New Hampshire Charles Sherman of Texas, Diane Marshall of Kansas, Kathleen Sherman of North Carolina, Sandra Watson of Texas, Susan Fischer of Colorado, and Melanie McGhee of Texas; 22 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Friday, January 4, at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport at 9 a.m.        

Calling hours are Thursday, 4 – 7 p,m.

Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport.
