VERONA, NY —Two Westport residents were among three people killed in a one-car rollover crash Wednesday morning on the New York State Thruway between exits 33 and 34 about 35 miles east of Syracuse, NY.
The crash happened at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes.
New York State Police identified the victims as David M. Botehlo, 73, and Isabel Botelho, 72, both of Westport, and Maria Braga, 81, of Fall River.
The driver, Joao Braga, 81, of Fall River was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where he was still being treated late Thursday.
The SUV in which the four were riding rolled over in a grassy area between the highway’s right shoulder and a paved rest area.
Police sad two Mercy Flight helicopters were called to the scene. One landed on the hghway while the other was called off.
The weather at the time was reported to be an unseasonably warm 70 degrees and dry. The crash remains under investigation.
