Cole Vieira leads the way for Eagles

The Barrington High School golf team won the Hendricken Invitational at Warwick Country Club on Monday afternoon, finishing with a 321, four strokes better than Moses Brown and LaSalle. The team battled through some challenging conditions — the wind gusted between 25 and 35 miles per hour throughout the tournament.

Junior Cole Vieira, the Eagles’ captain, finished his round with a 76.

Barrington senior Ryan Ricci played well also, firing a 79. Barrington High School Coach Dustin Walbridge said Ricci has shown great improvement in his game. Walbridge also praised junior captain Sean Bonneau.

“Junior and captain Sean Bonneau has had a wonderful spring season so far and continued to do so shooting an 82,” Walbridge said.

The Eagles coach said sophomore Adam Gorman also improved his short game and has been a steady contributor for the Eagles. Gorman finished with an 84 on Monday.

“Overall as a coach, you like to see success, but watching the team improve on their games as a whole is even more rewarding,” Walbridge said. “Today was a great test of character and I am very proud of my team!”

The Hendricken Invitational featured some very highly-ranked teams: LaSalle, Hendricken,  Moses Brown, Iona Prep (NY), Prout, Wheeler, Dexter Southfield, South Kingstown, Thayer and St. George's.
