The Barrington High School baseball team opened the season with wins over Coventry and Mt. Hope.

The Eagles, now competing in Division I, relied on stellar pitching and timely hitting during the two victories.

Jack Lawson started on the mound in the Eagles’ 5-2 win over Coventry on Friday, April 4.

Lawson pitched four innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out two batters and walked two. Nate Coutant pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the Eagles. He struck out four batters, and allowed two walks.

Christopher Promades led the Eagles offense, which finished with 11 hits. Promades blasted three hits in four at-bats, drove in two runs and scored once. Blake Dolan went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, Alex Anderson finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and a walk, and Lucas Tanous went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

Cole Kepner went 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a run scored, while David Redmond and Chip Lambert each scored a run.

“I was very pleased with how the team played,” said Barrington High School Coach Jacob Kapstein. “Especially after having a week off following the scrimmages.”

The Eagles tallied nine hits in a 7-3 victory over Mt. Hope on Saturday, April 5. Miles Fontaine, Anderson and Santino Giuffrida each had two hits, while Tanous, Dolan and Redmond also recorded hits.

Owen Pfeffer started for the Eagles, and made way for Redmond, who pitched six innings in relief. Redmond allowed only one run in the outing.

“Dave was lights-out,” said Kapstein.

Barrington scored first against the Huskies, who battled back for a 2-1 lead after the first inning. Barrington tied the game in the second inning, scored three runs in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the seventh.

The Eagles were scheduled to play at Westerly on Tuesday and will travel to Cranston West on Thursday.
