Barrington High School girls track team wins Injury Fund relays

The Barrington High School girls outdoor track team is off to a strong start this spring. 

The Eagles raced to a team victory in the Class B Injury Fund Relays last week, and followed that up with lopsided wins over Bay View, Middletown and St. Patrick’s in dual meets on Friday, April 11. 

In the Injury Fund meet on Wednesday, April 9, Barrington celebrated a number of first-place finishes. Kitty Wang, Natalie Antonio and Allena Kelly teamed up to win the discus relay event, while Allie Ford, Zanylah Alston and Charlie Dimery won the high jump relay. 

Ella Calhoun, Faith Van Ness and Ava Morrissette won the triple jump relay, and Roxana Mohammadi, Emma Pearse, Dimery and Kate Pearse won the 4x100-meter relay. 

Indie Lamb, Evelyn Lefort, Gracie Gaines and Ginevra Girardello partnered to win the 4x800-meter relay. And Gaines (1,200-meters), Lamb (400-meters), Kate Pearse (800-meters), and Lefort (1,600-meters) won the distance medley relay. 

Barrington also had second place finishes in the 4x200-meter event and the 4x400-meter relay. 

On Friday, April 11, Barrington raced past Middletown (135-19), Bay View (132-21) and St. Patrick’s (150-3).

• 400-meters: Kate Pearse

• 800-meters: Lamb

• 3,000-meters: Lefort

• 300-meter hurdles: Charlotte Farrell

• Long jump: Morrissette 

• Triple jump: Ivy Di Lorenzo

• Shot put: Wang

• Discus: Wang

• Hammer: Kelly

• Javelin: Ella Martin

• 4x100-meters: Mohammadi, Emma Pearse, Dimery and Kate Pearse

• 4x400-meters: Van Ness, Faith Barrass, Ella Reagan and Lamb

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
