The Barrington Youth Basketball Association is gearing up for another exciting season, with key dates quickly approaching for both the recreational league and the competitive travel program.
For those interested in the competitive travel program, tryouts are scheduled for the weeks of Sept. 16 and 23, with two sessions per grade. Players in Grades 3-8 with advanced basketball skills are encouraged to attend both tryout sessions to showcase their abilities. A non-refundable $40 fee is required to register for tryouts, and participants must sign up before Sept. 13 to be eligible. The season for the competitive travel program will kick off the week before Thanksgiving, running through mid-March, with games also scheduled over February vacation. All teams will also have the opportunity to compete in a post-season tournament.
Meanwhile, the recreational league offers a more flexible option for youth in Grades 3-8, including those new to the game or looking to continue developing their skills in a fun and supportive environment. The season begins the week of Nov. 25 and wraps up with a one-day tournament on Feb. 8. This program is ideal for families who may travel on weekends during the winter months but still want their child to enjoy basketball. Each team will have one hour of practice during the week and a game on Saturday, with equal playing time for all participants.
For players participating in both leagues, the BYBA requires attendance at 60 percent of recreational league practices and games, with an exception for those on the Barrington Middle School team. Registration for the competitive travel program includes the fee for the recreational league.
Scholarships are available upon request to ensure that all interested players have the opportunity to participate.
