The Barrington High School boys hockey team lost to Smithfield 4-3 Friday night at the Abbey. 

The Sentinels took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but the Eagles’ Ryan Claussen tallied the equalizer at the 7:55 mark of the first period. Trevor Snow and Adam Gorman assisted. The Sentinels took a 2-1 lead five minutes into the second period. The Eagles’ Cam Hayes even the score midway through the period. It took the Sentinels just 30 seconds to regain the lead. Two minutes later the Sentinels took a two-goal lead, 4-2. 

Drake Almeida made it 4-3 on an unassisted goal 11 minutes into the second period. The third period was dominated by the Eagles with several opportunities to level the score but the Smithfield goaltender kept the Eagles at bay and the Sentinels skated off with a 4-3 victory over the Eagles.

On Saturday night, the Eagles hosted the Mansfield hornets in a non-league contest at Lynch Arena. Snow opened up the Eagles scoring just two minutes into the game. Gorman and Claussen assisted. The Eagles increased their lead to 2-0 on a second period goal by Joey Carmone. Henry Kelsey and Chase Watts assisted. Mansfield made it 2-1 on a power play goal midway through the second period. 

The Eagles Watts scored an early third period goal to put the Eagles up 3-1. Henry Kelsey assisted. With two minutes to play, the Hornets evened the score at 3-3. With 30 seconds left in regulation in Eagles defenseman was called for tripping on a Mansfield breakaway, and Mansfield was awarded a penalty shot The Mansfield player skated in on Eagles goaltender Dominic Bruzzi — he faked right and shot the puck, but Bruzzi turned the attempt aside and the teams ended regulation tied 3-3. 

The teams change sides and started the 5-minute period playing five-on-five hockey. The Eagles took a penalty with a minute and a half to play and were facing a five-on-four the remainder of the game. Ten seconds later Mansfield was whistled for a penalty and the teams played four-on-four. The Eagles controlled play and with 30 seconds left in overtime a Mansfield player hooked and Eagles player and was sent to the box. The Eagles had a four-on-three advantage for the final 30 seconds, but were unable to capitalize, the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

The Eagles travel to Boss Arena at URI on Wednesday to take on the North Kingstown Skippers at 8:15 p.m. . They travel to Cromwell, Conn. for a Saturday night game versus Xavier High School and have an important League game Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Abbey versus East Greenwich.
