A senior delivered on Senior Day for the Barrington High School baseball team.

Bennett Durkin pitched a complete game for the Eagles, striking out nine Vikings batters and allowing just one earned run, as Barrington defeated Rogers 4-2 in a key division game on Monday afternoon, June 7.

Durkin allowed just two hits in seven innings of work, while junior outfielder Harry Turner ripped a bases loaded triple, driving in three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Davis, in his first at-bat for the varsity, had a base hit and drove in a run for Eagles.

Barrington took time to acknowledge the senior members of the team on Monday: George Promades, Noah Mincone, Jack Kriz, Peter Kostas, Aaron Brady and Durkin.

Barrington is awaiting the results of the Rogers vs. Westerly game to see if they will have the number one seed heading into the playoffs.

Boys tennis

Barrington improved to 8-0 with a 7-0 win over Prout on Monday, June 7. It was Barrington’s fourth-straight 7-0 victory.

The win set up a big match against undefeated LaSalle on Wednesday, June 9. The match will also serve as Senior Day for the Eagles.

Also last week, Barrington’s top three singles players — Eric Zhang, James Bogdanovic, and Scott Sapolsky — competed in the State Individual Tournament at Slater Park in Pawtucket. Eric and James each won four matches and will square off against each other in the championship finals.

“Big news- top two guys in the state from the same team!” Coach Betsy Brenner wrote.

Boys lacrosse

The Barrington High School boys lacrosse team played an inspired game in a 9-7 win over Cumberland at Tucker Field in Cumberland on Monday.

Neil MacGillivray led the Eagles with four goals, while Quinn Gaffney scored three times. Will Loew and Ethan Tomulonis each scored single goals for Barrington, and Tucker Squires and Tommy Feroce each had perfectly-placed assists.

Next up for the Eagles is a home game against Moses Brown on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Victory Field. Playoffs begin next week.

Boys volleyball

The Eagles fell to 1-8 after a 3-1 loss to the Tolman/Shea Co-op team on Friday.

Barrington Coach Christian Lambert said his team has played hard all season, and players’ skills continue to improve.

“The skills have come a long, long way since the beginning of the season,” Coach Lambert said. “But their decision-making is green, because they’re young, they’re inexperienced.”

Some of that inexperience surfaced in a 3-1 loss to Westerly. Barrington won its first set, 25-18, but the Bulldogs responded with a seven-point service run to start the second game. Coach Lambert said his team was, at times, confused with their assignments. The Eagles kept it close in the second game, but lost 25-22. Coach Lambert said his team battled back in the third set and had an opportunity to win it, but couldn’t close it out. Barrington eventually dropped the match.

The recent loss to Tolman/Shea may play a factor in the Eagles ability to earn a playoff spot — the bottom two teams in the division do not qualify for postseason play. Barrington’s final match of the regular season in Wednesday at Pilgrim.

Coach Lambert wanted to praise the leadership of senior Aidan Keenan.

“He is a tremendous mentor to the young kids,” Coach Lambert said. “This kid’s personality lends itself to becoming a teacher or mentor to these young kids.”
