The Barrington daycare that is being investigated by DCYF and Barrington Police for giving melatonin gummies to children had its license suspended in 2018 following an earlier DCYF investigation.
DCYF (Department of Children, Youth and Families) imposed a one-day suspension of the childcare license of Kids Quarters, LLC in June 2018 as a result of an injury to a child attending the center.
According to a statement from DCYF, the state agency also placed the daycare’s license on probationary status for a term of three months and required all staff to attend additional training following the injury to a child at the center.
Barrington Police and DCYF opened an investigation into Kids Quarters earlier this month after a daycare employee allegedly gave melatonin gummies to children.
Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia said the department received a phone call from DCYF on Monday, Jan. 9, regarding that agency’s investigation. Barrington Police immediately began its own investigation.
“We’ve identified four toddlers under the age of four,” Chief Correia said, referring to children who were given melatonin gummies.
Chief Correia said the incident occurred on Jan. 5. He also said that the daycare’s owner was cooperating with the investigation.
