The Barrington High School girls lacrosse team lost to a tough Moses Brown squad in the Division I championship game at Cumberland on Sunday. 

Moses Brown built an early lead and rolled to a 17-7 victory over the Eagles. 

Barrington trailed 15-1 at the half, but outscored the Quakers in the second half. Kate Robertson led the Eagles in scoring with three goals, while Ava Kovolyan and Tess Gagliano each scored twice.

Barrington Coach Olivia Ougheltree said she was proud of her team’s effort.

“This year's team is an amazing group of girls who inspired one another and fought until the end,” Coach Ougheltree said. “I am so proud of these girls and everything we accomplished this year. It was an even more special season as we say good-bye to our only senior, Tess Gagliano, who has led this team since the moment she stepped on the field as a freshman and has truly left a lasting impact on Rhode Island girls lacrosse.”

Barrington had punched its ticket to the Division I state finals by defeating Lincoln School 14-9 in the semifinals on Thursday, June 17. Tess Gagliano scored four goals and Julia Stanchina and Ava Kovolyn each scored three times to lead the Eagles’s attack. Gagliano, Stanchina and Kovolyn also had two assists each.

Reilly Curran and Charlotte McGarry each scored a goal and had an assist, while Charlotte Danyla and Violet Gagliano scored single goals. 

Audrey Keefe made seven saves in net for the Eagles.

Barrington opened the Division I playoffs with a commanding 18-6 win over Wheeler School at Barrington’s Victory Field on Tuesday.

The Division I Finals marked the second time Barrington played against Moses Brown — the Eagles fell to the Quakers 24-8 during the first game of the season. Moses Brown did not lose a single division game this year.
