Barrington Police charge Pawtucket man with numerous offenses

A Pawtucket man is facing multiple charges following an accident that occurred in Barrington late Friday night, April 4.

Barrington Police charged Henry James DeAndrade, 42, of Pawtucket, with DUI liquor or drugs, resulting in serious bodily injury-first offense, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and duty to stop at an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.

Police said DeAndrade was driving a pickup truck on County Road near the intersection with Congress Road when he struck a motorcyclist.

Police said the motorcycle driver was injured and DeAndrade fled the scene.

Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia said DeAndrade was later stopped by East Providence Police. He was arrested early Saturday morning, April 5.

“A concerned citizen had followed the suspect vehicle,” Chief Correia said, adding that other residents offered aid to the injured motorcycle driver, a 57-year-old man from Middletown.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries to his lower leg, Chief Correia said. EMTs transported the victim to a hospital.

Chief Correia praised the citizens who helped out in different capacities following the accident — those who called police to report the incident; those who stopped and offered medical aid to the victim; and those who identified the suspect and followed his vehicle as it left the scene.
