Grace Libby McKinlay, 87, passed peacefully on Monday, July 12, 2021 after a brief illness. Born on Jan. 13, 1934 in Bar Harbor, Maine to Seth Emerson and Helen Greeley Libby, Grace was immensely proud of her Maine heritage. She graduated from the University of Maine Orono in 1956 where she was a sorority member of Alpha Omicron Pi. Upon graduation, Grace moved to Clinton, Conn. to pursue a teaching opportunity at the former Clinton Grammar School. It was there that she met and fell in love with the boy next door, Edwin Hugh McKinlay.

Grace and Ed married and lived throughout New England with their growing family until settling in Barrington, their home for the past 54 years. Grace worked tirelessly to create a warm, loving and caring home environment for her family. Outside of the home, she worked at Old Stone Bank Computer Center for 25 years. Throughout her life, she volunteered countless hours for her church, Girl Scouts, local schools and library. Reading, knitting and sewing were just a few of the hobbies she enjoyed and shared with her family. She also fostered a love for New England, the ocean and swimming.

Grace is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edwin H. McKinlay; daughter, Ann Horan and her husband, Michael, of Syracuse, NY; daughter Margo McKinlay of Kennebunk, Maine; and daughter, Jill Stuart and her husband, Paul, of Old Saybrook, Conn.; grandchildren Erin White and her husband Evan; Nolan, Hunter, Galvin and Libby Stuart; and great-grandchildren Grace and Oscar White. She also leaves many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Seth Emerson Libby II and Richard Stoddard Libby; and two sisters, JoAnne Libby Olson and Jeanette Joy Libby.

An amazing role model, devoted wife, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Grace will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Grace’s memory can be made to Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, 50 Foden Road, South Portland, ME 04106, northernlighthealth.org.
