The Hampden Meadows School Tough Tiger saw one of its biggest crowds ever this year.
Nearly 1,300 people registered for the annual adventure race, which was held Sunday, May 18. Even more people actually participated, completing the course without registering.
“This was one of our highest participations to date,” wrote Hampden Meadows School Principal Gino Sangiuliano in an email to the Barrington Times.
“It is so much more than a fundraiser, it is a celebration. The PTO has created an event that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. It is not about the race, it is really about volunteers, families, staff, and students coming together to celebrate our school and the people that make it so special. The planning starts months earlier, but it is worth it!”
The Tough Tiger offers a variety of fun and challenging obstacles sprinkled across two school campuses — Hampden Meadows and Sowams — and in the nearby woods. It finishes with muddy crawl near the school.
Principal Sangiuliano, or “Mr. S” as he is known by most students, usually runs in the Tough Tiger too, but had to miss this year’s event in order to attend his son’s graduation.
