The Barrington Town Council approved the purchase of a new, used harbor patrol boat during the April 5 meeting.
Barrington Police Chief Dino DeCrescenzo requested approval for the purchase, stating that the current harbor patrol boat was in bad shape and needed to be replaced.
The department had come to an agreement with a Bristol-based marina to purchase a 2015 Cobia 22-foot center console for $41,250. The chief said the boat will be good for patrolling Hundred Acre Cove as well as the open waters of Narragansett Bay.
He also said that the boat was very lightly used — it has just 147 hours on the boat and engine. The council approved the request 5-0.
