Barrington police responded to a Walnut Road residence after a raccoon attacked people who were attending a banquet for a hockey team on Sunday night, May 23.
Police said the raccoon first approached the tent at about 10 p.m. and was trying to eat food scraps from a trash can. It then darted after one of the hockey players who was trying to put away some of the video equipment used for a presentation at the party. The boy was able to escape the animal, but another woman at the party was not so lucky.
Police said the raccoon bit the woman on her foot. EMTs who had responded to the scene treated the woman’s injury and offered to transport her to a hospital for further treatment. The woman said she was going to drive herself to the hospital later that night.
Meanwhile, police officers searched the area for the raccoon but were unable to find it.
