Letter: The point is, there are too many guns

In the Speakout section of the March 4 Phoenix, a writer takes objection to facts stated in the previous week’s letters that there were 0 mass killings in Canada in 2020. Yes, unfortunately there occurred 22 lunatic homicides in Nova Scotia during the week of April 22, 2020, committed over several days and in several counties, but this was not a mass killing.

In fact, there were 23 killings that week (not 22) as the lunatic shooter was eventually tracked down and killed by the Mounties . The point was to illustrate that less guns per capita (as in Canada) absolutely create a safer and freer environment for everyone. It is tragically real that in the USA there are more guns than people.

Misrepresenting those facts does not alter the truth. This amendment was intended to protect against a foreign power usurping the government, and not to defend the population against a duly elected government.
