Marie “Peachie” (Nappi) Simard, 82, of Bristol, R.I., passed away, Monday, July 26, 2021, at the Miriam Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Richard J. Simard Sr. Born in Bristol, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Paiva) Nappi.
Marie, or Peachie as her many friends and some family called her, worked as a caretaker at the James L. Maher Center, in Bristol, for 25 years. This was a perfect fit for her as she was always the caretaker, and often had difficulty allowing care to be given when she needed it. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Bristol.
She spent many years as a chaperone for Drum and Bugle Corps, which her beloved husband of 50+ years, and both children were involved in. Of course as a Bristolian, the Fourth of July was “her” holiday, and she enjoyed many celebrations at Independence Park on Thames Street in Bristol.
Marie also loved visiting Disney World and cruising on the Disney Cruise Line. She often gets notes from former servers on the ship on how she brightened their day. But it was spending time with her family that really brought her the most happiness, because “no one had children and five perfect grandchildren like she did.” The love she had for children and them for her was remarked on by many over the last couple of years.
She is survived by a son, Richard J. Simard Jr. and his wife Rosemarie of Woonsocket, R.I.; a daughter, Elaine M. Berling of Warwick, R.I.; two brothers, Jesse Nappi and Jack Nappi, both of Bristol, R.I.; a sister, Cynthia Carvara of Bristol, R.I.; five grandchildren, Amy, RJ, Brittney, Nicholas and Anthony, and three great-grandchildren, Skyla, Nikki, and Rozalynne. She was predeceased by three brothers, Junior Nappi, Russel Nappi, and Tony Nappi.
