Our dear Norberto Cabral, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at Newport Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family everyday for weeks leading up to his passing. Norberto passed away from a broken heart.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1934, in Pico da Pedra, São Miguel, the son of the late Artur Cabral and Maria dos Anjos Soares. He was the husband of the late Maria José “Zeze” Cabral and is survived by his two loving children: Natalie Rainville and her husband Joseph Rainville; and Arthur Cabral and his wife Angela Cabral. He treasured his four grandchildren: Cristina Rainville, Sara Cabral, Olivia Rainville, and Sofia Cabral. Norberto loved spending time and playing with his three great-grand fur babies: Charley, Daisy, and Kiki. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends, both in the Azores and in the U.S.

Norberto was a wonderful, kind man with a big heart, and the love he had for his family was unmatched. He loved to joke around and make everyone around him laugh. You could always find him outside doing yard work or helping out other neighbors in his neighborhood.

Norberto had a talent for music and he loved to sing and play the harmonica and accordion for his family, especially during the holidays. He was a simple man who wholeheartedly adored his late wife, who passed away just a month and a half ago.

Norberto will be remembered as a loving and humble man with an undeniable way of making those around him laugh. He had an unconditional love for his family. Although our hearts are heavy and saddened with this sudden loss and he will eternally be missed by many, we will find comfort that he is in heaven with his beautiful wife watching over us. His love, legacy, and spirit will live on in those whose lives he touched forever.

His funeral services were held on Nov. 18 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Church.  Liturgical readings were by Olivia Rainville and Christina Rainville. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Sara Cabral and the eulogy was presented by Sofia Cabral.
