Huskies' Jenness, Pitts and McCarthy gain finals at wrestling state championships

Atley Jenness, Patrick Pitts and Andrew McCarthy, each won their semifinals match at the Rhode Island wrestling state championships at the Providence Career and Technical Academy on Saturday and will vie for the state championship  in their weight classes at 3 p.m. on Sunday. As a team, the Huskies are currenty in  fourth place with 111 points and have a big hill to climb to catch first place Coventry at 186 points. 

Jenness, a senior,  beat Joseph Church of Hendricken by a 5-0 decision. He will face  Michael Jarrel of East Greenwich in the 220 pound final.  Pitts, a senior, won a 7-5 decision over R'cardo Smith-selguedo of Juanita Sanchez.  He'll face Hendricken's Adolfo Betancur in the heavyweight final. McCarthy, a freshman, defeated  Cam Davis of Cranston West by a 3-1 decision. McCarthy will face Peyton Ellis of Coventry in the 113 pound final. 

Brock Pacheco and Ethan Bland both gained the semis for the Huskies but lost their matches. They will now compete for third place along with teammate Drystan McClain on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.
