Bonnie A. (Norton) Filippo, 73, of Woodcrest Drive, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021 at The Miriam Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard G. Filippo for 51 years. Born in Newport, RI she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Barbara Norton.
She was a lifelong resident of Riverside. She leaves a daughter Kimberly Filippo of Rumford, son Gregory Filippo of Barrington, her sister Colleen Hermannsson of Portsmouth her brother Ken Slater of Delaware, 4 grandchildren Lilyana, Liam, Samara and Gregory of Barrington and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of East Providence High School and a graduate of the first nursing program at RI Junior College in 1969. She became a registered nurse and had several jobs in the nursing field throughout her life. She worked at Hattie Ide Chaffee, Bradley Hospital and the Jewish Community Center.
She loved her family dearly and was a proud mother, wife, and grandmother. She was a lover of animals and would rescue them often, take cruises, loved shopping, was an avid bird watcher and spent many hours in the garden. As a young girl she was a dancer and performer and later in life she was a compassionate caregiver to many family members and neighbors.
