Carmine Manuel “Ballzy” Balzano, 86, of East Providence

Carmine Manuel “Ballzy” Balzano, 86, of East Providence and formerly of Bristol, passed away on Aug. 25, 2021, at home. He was the husband of Jane L. Kachel of East Providence and the late Margaret Ann (Connors) Balzano. 

Born in Bristol, he was son of the late Thomas and Jennie (Malafronte) Balzano. He is survived by his children: Michael Balzano and his wife Brenda of Bristol; Susan Balzano of Bristol; and Joanne Balzano of East Greenwich; and his granddaughters, Katie Balzano and Jessica Reynolds. He was the brother of Frank “Dodo” Balzano and the late John Balzano. He was the brother-in-law of Barbara Balzano.

He is also survived by his stepsons, David Kachel and his wife Charlene and Michael Kachel and his wife Angie. He was the step-grandfather of Brandon Kachel and Sara Kachel and step-grandfather of Jennie, Brett, Destiny, Jordan and Christian.

Mr. Balzano was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School and employed as the Service Manager at Engle Tire before retiring after 47 years.

His funeral services were held Aug. 30 at the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Graveside Service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
