Edward F. Gillheeney, Jr., 78, of Rumford, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Jeanette (Langlois) Gillheeney, to whom he was married for 56 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Edward and Mary Louise (Burke) Gillheeney.
Edward was a salesperson all of his working career and he was also the president and owner of Creative Office Environments for 29 years until he retired. He was a past President of the former Knights of Columbus, Pope John the XXIII council. He enjoyed watching hockey and football, and played in an over-30 men’s hockey league.
Ed had a passion for antique vehicles and restoring his own cars. He was very proud of his black 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback. Ed was a hardworking man who was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and will be dearly missed.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Karen Thornton and her husband Lawrence of Warwick; two grandchildren, Justin Thornton and his fiancée Courtney Lancor of Connecticut, Nolan Thornton of Warwick, and one brother, William Gillheeney of East Providence. He was the brother of the late Mary “Pat” Gillheeney.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at 9 a.m. from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Calling hours on Wednesday from 5-7 P.M.
