EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School football team dropped its Division I league opener by a 28-7 count to visiting Shea Friday night, Sept. 23.

Quarterback Trey Rezendes connected on a one-yard pass to Marcus Garedo on the last play of the contest to help the Townies avoid the shutout. Rezendes set up the score with a 40 yard run earlier in the series.

The Raiders scored a pair of touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to build a commanding 28-0 lead by intermission. Shea recovered an E.P. fumble deep in Townie territory early in the opening period, eventually running in for the touch with just over 8 minutes left in the stanza. Following a short punt, the visitors needed just three plays to score on another run to up their lead to 14-0.

The Raiders added a third rushing touchdown early in the second quarter to make it 21-0 before closing out the first-half scoring with a throwing TD late in the period.
