Lily MacKenzie West Richardson, formerly of East Providence

Lily MacKenzie West Richardson was born in Jamestown, R.I. on Aug. 17, 1918. She died in her sleep on Aug. 10, 2021, at her daughter Sue Ann’s home in McCaysville, Ga.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Lily MacKenzie West of Jamestown, R.I., four brothers and three sisters, and her husband, Thomas A. Richardson of East Providence.

She is survived by her five children, Thomas Richardson (Connie), Concord, N.C., Bruce Richardson (Audrey), Minneapolis, Minn., Stephen Richardson (Judy), Kissimmee, Fla., Sue Ann Richardson, McCaysville, Ga., and Beth Richardson (Susan), Athens, Ga. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennie Montano (Luis), Tom Richardson (Jamie), James Richardson (Brandy), Molly Richardson (Chris), Abram Richardson (Amy), Chelsea James, Jon Richardson, plus eight great grandchildren (Cassidy, Xavier, Grant, Elijah, Isaiah, Noah, Mia and Eli) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a daughter from another mother Sandra Santos.

Lily (Libby) graduated from Rogers High School in Newport and from nurses training school in Albany, N.Y. She worked as a private duty infant nurse in New York City prior to her marriage. Her love of reading landed her a job as an assistant librarian at the Anne Ide Fuller library in East Providence.

She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Providence, and the Christian Science church in Athens, Ga. On her last trip to the family reunion in Jamestown, she celebrated her 100 birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Her ashes will be interred with her husband’s ashes at the family plot in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. A celebration of her life will be held in Jamestown in 2022. In lieu of flowers please sing your favorite hymn or song, loudly and with great joy.
