If you want to be true to your schools and show your support for the athletes at Portsmouth High and Portsmouth Middle schools, here’s where you can catch some home games in the next couple of weeks.
• Thursday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m.: The PHS girls’ varsity tennis team hosts Cumberland.
• Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.: The PHS varsity football team hosts North Kingstown in a non-league game.
• Saturday, Sept. 10, at noon: The PHS girls’ varsity soccer team hosts Newtown (Conn.) in a non-league game.
• Monday, Sept. 12, at 3:30 p.m.: The middle school girls’ soccer team hosts De La Salle Middle School.
• Monday, Sept. 12, at 4 p.m.: The PHS boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams compete against multiple schools at Glen Park/polo grounds.
• Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 4:45 p.m.: The PHS junior-varsity girls’ volleyball team hosts La Salle Academy at the field house. The varsity teams square off at 6:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 3:30 p.m.: The PHS unified varsity volleyball team hosts East Providence in the field house.
• Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 4:30 p.m.: The PHS girls’ varsity tennis team hosts La Salle Academy.
• Thursday, Sept. 15, at 4:30 p.m.: The Portsmouth Middle School boys’ soccer team hosts Gaudet Middle School at the middle school.
• Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.: The PHS varsity football team hosts Westerly.
• Saturday, Sept. 17: The PHS boys’ junior-varsity soccer team hosts East Providence at 4 p.m., with the varsity teams competing at 6 p.m.
• Monday, Sept. 19: The PHS girls’ junior-varsity volleyball team hosts West Warwick at 4:45 p.m., with the varsity teams squaring off at 6:30 p.m.
• Monday, Sept. 19: The PHS girls’ junior varsity soccer team hosts Coventry at 5:15 p.m., with the varsity teams doing battle at 7 p.m.
• Wednesday, Sept. 21: The PHS girls’ junior-varsity volleyball team hosts Prout School at 4:45 p.m., with the varsity teams competing at 6:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, Sept. 21: The PHS junior-varsity boys’ soccer team hosts Moses Brown at 5 p.m., with the varsity teams playing at 7 p.m.
PORTSMOUTH — The wait is over.
The Portsmouth High School varsity football team’s regular season starts Friday, Sept. 9, with a non-league game against North Kingstown at home. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at the PHS turf field, which has new LED lights this season.
The Portsmouth Gridiron Club will hold a helicopter golf ball drop fund-raising event on the turf field before the game at 5:30 p.m.
The Patriots edged Rogers High School, 6-0, in a two-quarter Injury Fund game on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Tiverton High School.
The defense stepped up for the game, with Evan Tullson intercepting a pass on Rogers’ own 10-yard line to stop the Vikings’ first possession. Portsmouth’s Neal Tullson then ran the ball three straight times before quarterback Luke Brennan kept it on fourth down to score from a yard out. That was the only scoring either team could manage.
The Neal Tullson managed 24 yards on six carries for Portsmouth.
After Friday’s game, Portsmouth stays home to face Westerly at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, before traveling to Bishop Hendricken for a non-lease game on Friday, Sept. 23.
