A year and a half after the alleged crimes, a Woonsocket woman faces charges in Little Compton after police said she used a woman’s credit card without her consent while working as a customer service representative for an insurance company.

Chanda A. Stewart, 27, of 436 South Main St., Woonsocket, was charged last Tuesday, March 11, with felony exploitation of an elder and four counts of misdemeanor fraudulent use of a credit card (under $100) in a six-month period in mid to late 2023. At the time, police reports indicate that Stewart was working as a customer service representative for MCIC/AAA Insurance.

According to a narrative provided by Chief Scott Raynes, the Little Compton victim contacted police in early December 2023 after she found unexplained charges totaling just under $70 on her card.

Police spoke with AAA’s corporate attorney, and an internal investigation within the company later revealed that Stewart had requested the victim’s security code — a violation of company policy.

After two court-appointed search warrants were served, “it was proved” that the charges were fraudulent, police wrote in a report on her arrest.
