Gray Prior, 53, Middletown

Gray Prior, 53, of Middletown, daughter of the Rev. J Gregory and Anna Gray (de Brux) Prior of Hilton Head Island SC, died Feb. 1 at her home after a long illness. 

Born in Providence, Oct. 7, 1967, she was raised and educated in South Carolina and moved to Little Compton 19 years ago. 
 
She was a longtime resident of the Maher Center’s Jepson Lane Group Home. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Jepson Lane for their years of loving care. 
 
Surviving in addition to her parents are her siblings, Matthew Prior of Hilton Head and Little Compton, Helen Ashton of Hilton Head and Susan Prior Thomaes of Berkeley, CA. 
 
Gray was a member of St. Andrew’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Little Compton. A graveside service will be held at St Paul’s Churchyard in Summerville, South Carolina, at a time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maher Center, 906 Aquidneck Ave., Middletown, RI 02842.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
