I am writing to share effective Monday, Sept. 23, I have resigned as a member of the Little Compton School Committee, a role that has been both an honor and a responsibility. 

Sadly, as many others, we have been priced out of Little Compton, and had no other option than to purchase a home in Tiverton. While this decision brings many mixed emotions, my family looks forward to this new chapter. Most importantly, our children will remain at Wilbur McMahon 

We must remember in this small community that we can love and respect an individual and not feel obligated to support them for town leadership.

Since my election in 2022, I have diligently worked to advocate for all children, striving to craft and support policies that create a welcoming and safe learning environment for every student. However, my experience has also highlighted some concerning behaviors.

I have witnessed a Republican colleague, who seeks re-election, vote against the approval of a well-thought-out and balanced budget — one that is essential for the flourishing of our village school along with other essential policies that create a safe learning environment. The budget not only met academic expectations but also supported important programs and activities, such as our theater, band and art programs, which enriches the educational experience for our students. It raises questions about the priorities of some school committee members. If those in leadership positions are not willing to support a budget that adequately serves our student population and fosters extracurricular activities, we must ask ourselves: Do they genuinely care about our school and our children? 

Additionally, I have been troubled by the presence of individuals from the Republican Town Committee who have consistently brought anti-LGBTQ+ agendas to our school committee meetings. Most noteworthy, someone who is currently seeking a seat on the town council. Attending multiple meetings over my two-year term. Spreading misinformation and hateful rhetoric. As we approach our November 5 election, it is crucial that we protect our school from censorship, extremism and misinformation. We need leaders who support inclusivity and stand against extremist groups that seek to undermine our community values. Groups such as Moms for Liberty.

As a caretaker, I will remain committed to advocating for a balanced approach that prioritizes the well-being and education of all students. I urge our community to engage in thoughtful dialogue and support policies and candidates who promote a safe and enriching environment for every child.
