Letter: Our South Shore Beach is gone
To the editor:
Oh, the sandy parking lot is still there, full of the usual potholes, but it drops off abruptly into a retaining wall of stone and boulders on the ocean side. The sea washes right up onto that. At high tide, and for long before and after, there is no sand at all. Just rocks and ocean.
Why, I don’t know. Sure it was a rough winter, with heavy tides washing tons of stone ashore, as always. And the sea levels are rising there’s that. But why have those tons of stone ended up as a retaining wall on the beach this time? Where we put them in past years, I don’t know.
It would take a front end loader and lots of work to get back where we were.
Might be worth considering.
