What has become a beloved summer tradition — the end of summer, anyway — had perhaps its largest turnout ever Sunday, when more than 600 residents turned up for Little Compton’s annual community dinner on the Commons.

Diners were asked to bring dinner for themselves and enough dessert to feed five to 10 people potluck style, and they came in droves. There were sandwiches, burgers, salads, lasagna, seafood and pretty much every dessert imaginable — cookies, apple pie, fruit dishes and plenty more. And there was enough for all.

The dinner was founded in 2018 by Barbara Passmore, and that year’s event drew fewer than 300 people — 267, to be exact. Passmore said in 2019 that “I thought I’d be happy if we got 100,” but it’s grown ever since, apart from a hiccup during the COVID pandemic.
