Melissa S. Helger, 36, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 23, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Kathleen M. Helger of Tiverton and Kevin Lacroix of Fall River.

Otherwise known as “Missy” to her family and close friends, she was first and foremost a proud mother to Avyonna Rose Cartin and Meleigha Viveiros, and aunt to Cali M. Paul, by whom she will be immensely missed. She was the sister of Angelique D. Helger of Tiverton with whom she shared a very close bond throughout her life.

Those who knew Missy were quickly drawn to her infectious smile, free spirit and quick wit. Missy enjoyed being with close friends and family, beach days and bonfires by the shore. She was a proud Leo and enjoyed astrology.

She will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to know her. She is survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles.

A graveside service will be held at Hillside cemetery, Tiverton Four Corners, Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at 10 am to which all are welcome to attend. Flowers are welcomed, please bring them directly to the cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
