Beach lovers with mobility issues now have options at Fogland and Grinnell's

Fogland and Grinnell’s Beaches in Tiverton are now more accessible to beachgoers who have mobility issues, following the delivery last week of a new beach wheelchair to each location.
The town acquired the chairs, along with a wheelchair swing that will be installed this fall at the Town Farm Recreational Area, in an effort to make local attractions more accessible to all who want to visit.

“Not only does the Recreation Commission want to provide recreational opportunities throughout the town, but we want to provide them for everybody,” commission chairman Stu Gilfillen said.

The chairs cost $2,500 each and were funded by a state legislative grant sponsored by Rep. John G. Edwards. They are lightweight and have oversized tires that make them easy to push on sandy terrain.

There is no charge for them, said Gilfillen, but beach attendants will request that a license or some other form of ID be provided while the chair is in use.
