PORTSMOUTH — Last year the Portsmouth High School boys’ varsity volleyball team, in only its second season of competitive play, got all the way to the Division III semifinals.

The Patriots seem determined to go deep into the playoffs again, as they’ve shut out their first two opponents of this season.

On Monday night in the PHS field house, Portsmouth manhandled visiting Hope High with increasingly efficiency by scores of 25-21, 25-8, and 25-5. It was the team’s sixth straight home win dating back to last season.

In their first game on March 28, the Patriots also shut out North Providence on the road.

The 2-0 Patriots were scheduled to host Achievement First Providence on Wednesday, April 2. Here are some other upcoming games:

• 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10: home against Mt. Pleasant

• 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11: home against Toll Gate

• Noon on Monday, April 14: home against Block Island

• 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16: at Burrillville

• 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 18: home against Pilgrim
