PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School gymnastics team came in second in the Division II state gymnastics championship on Saturday, narrowly losing the top spot by just one point.

The Patriots earned 133.525 as a team, slightly behind the winners, Prout/Exeter-West Greenwich, which scored 134.525.

Rowan Snyder, a sophomore, led the Patriots in scoring a 34.225 in the all-around (8.75 for vault, 8.1 for bars, 8.975 for beam, and 8.4 for the floor exercise).

Snyder qualified to compete in the 27th annual New England Gymnastics Championships in New Hampshire on March 11 in three events: vault, bars, and beam.

Senior Gabriella Randazzo scored the highest among her teammates in any event when she earned a 9.2 on the vault, which also qualified her for the New Englands for that discipline.

• Caitlyn Wordell, a senior, scored an 8.55 in the floor exercise, and an 8.5 on the vault.
