Roy F. Bonner, 94, Little Compton

Roy F. Bonner, 94, of Little Compton, passed away at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River on Sunday, June 27, after a short illness.

Roy was the beloved husband of Janet Bonner for nearly 67 years.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the only child of Francis and Imelda (Roy) Bonner.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he attended St. Francis College in Brooklyn, N.Y., after his service.

Mr. Bonner worked for IBM Corp for over 30 years and was on the adjunct faculty at the Brown University School of Engineering in Providence, R.I., for over 10 years before retiring.

Roy is survived by his wife Janet, sons James and wife Michele of East Greenwich, Peter of Medford, Ore., and daughter Peggy Mulvey and husband Jim of Warwick, and four grandchildren, Alex, Brendan, Sam, and Lauren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, July 2, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Little Compton, followed by interment with military honors at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
