Tiverton fourth-graders will move to the middle school next year, after the Tiverton School Committee voted 3-2 Tuesday to a school reconfiguration plan necessitated by the recent vote to shutter the Fort Barton School. Members Kimberly Paquette and Elaine Pavao voted against the move.
Under the plan, students in kindergarten through grade three will be housed at the two remaining elementary schools, Ranger and Pocasset, while pre-k students will be housed exclusively at Pocasset.
Despite the move, school committee members said Tuesday that they intend to keep the fourth grade experience as close to that of an elementary school experience as possible.
“Fourth grade will follow an elementary approach and schedule,” Farnworth said, adding that grades five and up will continue to follow a separate middle school schedule.
