Homeschoolers make Christmas cards for elderly

Little acts of kindness go a long way around the holidays

Posted

In a heartwarming act of holiday kindness, Sophia Carpenter, a Bristol resident and founder of the Heritage Christian Co-op, organized a special event for local families to spread cheer. On Friday, Dec. 13, Carpenter, along with two families and eight children from the co-op, gathered at Rogers Free Library to create handmade Christmas cards for elderly residents at Autumn Villa Assisted Living in Cumberland.

The group — who will also be caroling at the facility for the Christmas holiday — wanted to give more than just their voices. By crafting personalized, handwritten cards and singing classic holiday tunes like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Jingle Bells,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” and “Silent Night,” the children hope to brighten the day of the residents this season.

Carpenter, who felt compelled to make a difference, explained, “There’s too much negativity around the holidays, and I wanted to offer a ‘pick-me-up’ to those who need it most. The kids are super excited to share their creativity and joy with the residents.”

The heartfelt gesture of giving and spreading Christmas spirit is sure to make this holiday season a little brighter for the elderly residents at Autumn Villa.
