Letter: Senior center members — cast your vote on June 23

To the editor:

I’m writing to my fellow members of the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center to remind everyone that the annual elections for our Board of Directors is coming soon — Monday, June 23. You can cast your vote at the senior center between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and you must vote in person!

There are five board positions up for election. My name is Jim Seveney and I’m running for one of those seats. I respectfully ask for your support on election day.

In addition to me, I urge you to vote for Mark Katzman, John McDaid, Fred Faerber and Rita St. Laurent.

There are big changes coming to the senior center with the impending move into our new facility later this year, and we are ready to move out with the leadership necessary to make this transition effectively. If elected to your board, we will work hard to bring an effective focus on improvements to our center, and the essential services it offers our senior community. If you elect us, our immediate plans include the following actions:

• Create a detailed transition plan to move into our new center,

• Review and expand programs for our members,

• Develop more robust fund-raising programs,

• Leverage town recreation programs for more senior participation.

Please come out and cast your vote on June 23. We are committed to making our senior center better serve all our needs, and take full advantage of this great new facility opening soon. We humbly ask for your support.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
