PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School gymnastics team capped off its fine season by taking second place as a team in the Division I state championships on Saturday.
The Patriots scored 136.8 as a team, with La Salle Academy taking the championship with 138.65 points. Barrington High came in third with 136.45 points. The meet was held at the Murray Center at Rhode Island College.
Rowan Snyder led Portsmouth team in the all-around, posting a total score of 34.55 points (8.6 on the vault, 8.4 on the bars, 8.85 on the beam, and 8.7 on the floor exercise). Hers was the third-highest score in the all-around in her division.
She was followed by Roshana Webster, who scored 33.9 points (9.1 on the vault, 8.05 on the bars, 7.65 on the beam, and 9.1 on the floor exercise). Webster’s floor routine was judged the best among the D-1 competitors on Saturday.
Other standout performances by the Patriots came from Kiley Wordell (8.6 on the beam and 8.55 on the floor); Lucy Hart (9.0 on the floor); Payton Sousa-Duckworth (8.6 on the floor); Lexi Owen (8.55 on the vault); and Emma Bigelow (8.5 on the vault).
During the Midge Palmer Individual Championships held on Sunday, Webster came in seventh place in the all-around with a score of 34.775 (9.05 on the vault, 7.95 on the bars, 8.7 on the beam, and 9.075 on the floor).
Snyder took 10th in the all-around with a score of 35.125 (8.75 vault, 8.7 bars, 8.5 beam, and 9.175 floor).
The Patriots’ Bailey Davis came in 13th in the all around, scoring 33.6 points (8.3 vault, 8.6 bars, 8.2 beam, and 8.6 floor).
